2001 Questions for all other cars Rover 45 Deisel white smo

The Rover 45 started emitting white smoke from the 2 liitre engine. When I arrived home I switched it off but the engine continued running pouring out the white smore. I subsequently found the supply of fuel the kep it going was the oil from the sump according to the RAC. Can you give me an idea w
