2001 Dakota trouble code P1391

The stock engine blew big time. I picked up a used engine from the junk yard, installed it and now I get a hard to start, barely running rough engine with only one trouble code. The code P1391 says that the signal from/too the crank and or cam sensors is intermittent. I have checked the sensor per the manual, they get 5VDC and cycle as the engine is turned over by hand.

Is there any way to check the PCM? Can I take just the module and get it tested or do they need the whole truck? To get the truck down there I would have to have it towed 50 plus miles, and that is not cheap.

Thanks.

Could be the cam angle sensor, or the crank angle sensor. Be sure the timing is correct

Well the timing appears correct as do the crank and cam sensors. The sensors get the 5 VDC and they change states when the engine is turned over by hand. I have read several articles on similar problems but they all deal with an engine that has a distributor.
