I have had problems starting my car for a couple of weeks now. It makes that grrrrrring noise after about two trys and then starts. If I switch it of and try and start it again it starts up fine. The next moring the same thing. Seems after sitting for awhile I have the starting problems. Yesterday morning it did the same thing only after I switched off the car it was still trying to start even after I took the key out of the ignition. It didnt switch off until about two minutes after I had taken the key out. I would like to know what you might think this could be before I take it to a mechanic.

2 problems maybe? It sounds like the first symptom is a Slow crank, if so, how old is the battery?

Second problem with the key out: I think there is a separate ignition switch at the base of the column that is activated when the key is turned. There is a rod that connects the two more or less I believe. Sounds like something may be binding in there and not releasing.

I purchased the car two years ago. I don't know how old the battery is. Several days ago I took the battery out of my truck and put it in may car and had the same problems. I put the battery from my car in the truck and the truck started right up. About an hour after I posted yesterday I tried starting up the car before I went to work and it only took one try with no hesitation so I guess it's going to crank when it wants to and screw up when it wants to.
