This problem started the other day as my wife was driving the car and experienced too when i test drove it. starting the car was fine it idols fine when put in drive and drove pushed down on the accelarator and got to about 20mph and heard a whining noise from the engine, car then became sluggish. Car would not go over 30mph drove back home at about about 10mph home little whine what could that be..

This happened to me in my 72 chevelle and come to find out I ws only running on 4 cylinders. Check you plugs and wires and if that isn't it I would say trainy time. I hate to say that becasue I know it can cost $$$ to repair. I hope this helps you.

Have the throttle position sensor and MAP or MAF sensor to include exhaust restriction

Check the ignition timing w/an inductive timing lite.
