My truck has black smoke coming from the tailpipe, a lot of soot under the hood, while in drive it idles rough. I put a new fuel pump and EGR valve. Truck is getting really bad gas mileage. Also replaced brake booster, new pluts and wires and pulled plugs and they were black soot. Any suggestions on what the trouble may be?

Sounds like to me either your choke needs to be adj. Or your carb. Needs to be replaced. Your gas is burning way to rich.

Your car is burning oil badly it seems so do an oil change and see if that helps or your air filter is filthy and needs replacing

Ever think of doing aa compression check on the cylinders to see if you have blow by indicating you have a worn out engine
