A new filter in Canada is about $50.00 with tax. can I just use my air compressor and blow it out?

No you cannot, when you do that you will destroy the air filter and open up the paper fibers.You can take the filter and tap it on concrete with the bottom side facing down.That will free up some of the debris in it. To help get you by a little longer.
