The air conditioner compressor is making a rattling noise due to the metal hitting the outer casing on the bearing when it spins. Is there any way to fix the problem without having to buy a whole new unit?

I assume you are saying it is internal, so in order to answer that question it appears that you would have to take the compressor apart and see what is wrong and see if a new part is available.

Thanks for the answer. It is hard to explain but a ring shaped piece of metal is hitting the outer piece of metal when the belt is spinning. I have attached a photo with circles around the two metals that make contact.

That exterior clutch assembly should come off, then inspect it real good to figure out what is bent or whatever.
The clutch assembly usually comes as one entire assembly but I am sure somewhere, someone has the individual parts and might sell them.
I would start by checking the manufacturer of that compressor and checking out what is available.
