Hello, I have the car listed above that I bought used five months ago. My issue is that when I'm driving it does fairly well until I stop at a stop sign. Then, when I press the gas in, my foot goes all the way down, the pedal makes a popping noise, and I have to pump it until it finally catches and gives acceleration. It doesn't do this all the time. At times, it will drop acceleration when driving, but only when I'm going at low speeds. I need to include some important information. When I purchased the car, it had a bad misfire. I changed the spark plugs, but still I misfire. I drove it until it got worse. I got codes for misfire on cylinders and catalytic converter. I got all new coil pack and replaced the catalytic converter. The car was not drivable after, though the codes went off! It misfired so bad I couldn't get it out of the road. However, after unplugging the Mass Air Flow Sensor, my car would run decently. There is no misfire, but it still hesitates when I go from a stop to acceleration. It literally crawls in the road to the point where I'm afraid to drive it. So, we suspect it could be the Mass Air Flow sensor. My car has been recently having more episodes of a reduction in power as I described but no misfire. If I plug the MAF up, it misfires to the point it cannot get out of the road. My Codes now are p0420, p0130, p0133, p1300, p1310, p1315. I do not think it is the catalytic converter since I replaced it 2 weeks ago. I'm unsure if I should go ahead and replace the MAF sensor. I cannot drive the car with the MAF plugged up. However, I am a 23 year old mother and I'm afraid to drive this car because I cannot pull out in the road. My car sometimes wont move. I cannot afford another car, though, so I need to get to the bottom of this. My father does light mechanic work and can help me fix it if we can figure out what the problem is. Any advice is helpful.

Hi,

None of the codes are related to the MAF sensor. As you already know, the P0420 is the catalytic converter. The 130 an d 133 are related to the oxygen sensors. However, I feel the real issue is the 1300, 1310, and 1315. They are are codes for the ignition coils. See pic 1.

On the coils, there is what is called an IGT and an IGF signal wire. The IGT signal is from the ECM (computer module) which causes the coil (igniter) to create spark to the plugs. The IGF signal is basically the coil saying back to the ECM that a spark has occurred.

The first thing I need you to check are the connections at the new coils. Make sure they are tight, clean (not corroded) and not damaged.

Also, if the cylinders are not firing and sending raw fuel into the catalytic converter, it may be damaged even though it is only two weeks old.

Do this and let me know what you find.

Joe
