Hi there,
A wet and dry compression test will give you a fair indication as to ring condition, do the dry test first and note the readings, then add a small amount of oil to the cylinders do this one at a time checking compressions as you go, the oil will temp seal up faulty rings and the comp will increase, if the comp is still low, it will be a valve problem, start here.
