I have an 88 acura integra ls. Latly I have had trouble with the engine backfiring at about 3 thousand rpms (in any gear even nuetral) Along with this the exhuast smells alot like gas. I have replaced the spark plugs, wires, dirstributor rotor and cap, fuel pump, put new fuel in it, replaced the air flow sensor, replaced the ignition coil, I tested the injectors and they were fine, I also checked fuel pressure and it was fine, and I did a vaccum test and that was fine too. I have attacked all the possible causes of this problem I can think of and now I am stuck. PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi chevyman66,

You have covered the ignition and fuel so the next thing to check would be the exhaust system. There could be restriction causing the backfiring.

Did you check the ignition timing? Did you replace the timing belt?
