Twice now whilst driving at the speed limit I have felt the car increase in speed. I have taken my foot off the accelerator and it continues to speed up. I took it out of gear and the rpms went to 6000. Because of the road I was on I could not pull over immediately so had to constantly brake to keep the car under control. After ninety seconds I gained full control of the car. Whilst all of this was happening I was pulsing on the accelerator incase it was a sticky pedal/cable. But since reading forums I understand this could be a bigger/costlier issue than some WD40.

Defiantly a very dangerous situation to find your self in, I can't see anything in the TSB for your problem, it sounds as if it is cruise control or engine management problems, this should be sent to a dealer ASAP for a scan and report.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to add that the car doesn't have cruise control. However I did find the accelerator cable at the engine end was very slack at its fixed point. So when I put the foot down it took up tension but when I released it didnt always reset itself. I have since tightened up and Im monitoring the situation.

Thanks again

Ok, but be careful, something like that can be dangerous, I would still call a dealer to see if they have had this problem presented before.
