Hi,

I replaced the ABS system with a used unit due to costs etc. After a couple weeks I noticed my brake fluid reservoir level going down. I found a small leak in the "plastic L shaped part" that connects the ABS block to the brake fluid line. This line then goes to the brake fluid reservoir. The leak is where this part connects to the ABS block. This plastic part looks like it just "snaps into the ABS block". Is this the case? I took a look at my old unit and saw in this plastic part there is a small rubber seal. Could it be I just need to pop out this plastic part and change the seal? Also, for some reason this plastic part seems a little loose where it snaps into the block of the ABS. Asking the questions as I'm not positive the plastic part of the ABS unit is a snap fit?

Thank you, Pete

Hello.

Based on the information I have, there is no replacement for the inlet pipe on your ABS unit. Depending on where you got the unit, you may be able to return it or exchange it. As the old unit has failed, you could try to remove the inlet elbow to see if it's even possible. It may or may not break on the attempt.

I was able to remove the plastic inlet pipe from my "old unit" and it has an O-ring at the base. I was also able to put "pipe" in back in tightly. I may try and remove the "New units" inlet pipe and have a look at it. Try replacing the O-ring and get it back in place. See if that helps.

Thanks for your input.

Hi Joe, I was planning on doing this tomorrow or Thursday.I'll let you know how it works. I'm hoping by replacing the O-ring the slow leaking stops. Thanks! Pete

No problem whatsoever. I always try to follow up with people when I notice two days pass without hearing anything.

I hope you had a nice 4th and if you get a chance, let us know what happens.

Take care,

Hi Joe,

Can't believe it. Took my old ABS system "inlet-pipe" off to see the size of the o-ring. Had a buddy come over with his o-ring kit. Before I pulled off the "new inlet-pipe" from the ABS module in my Hylander. My friend stood over the ABS to make sure where the leak came from. I pumped the brakes and. It was NOT the inlet pipe leaking BUT one of the brake lines that bolts into the block of the ABS. I was afraid to over tighten those 10mm bolts on the lines. And all we did was tighten down that one line a little more. And presto. All good. No more leaking from the ABS block.

Thanks for your interest. I really was kind of afraid to over tighten those bolts. But I should have checked this in the first place. Just didn't have anyone to stand over the ABS when I pumped the brakes.

Thanks again!

Have a good evening,
Pete
PS: Hope you had a nice 4th too.

Say Joe, just a heads up. At least in my experience. I didn't use a computer program or special code reader to bleed the brakes.I was able to bleed the fronts no problem. Old school. They were easy. The back brakes I got nothing out crazy. Or very little brake fluid. However, once I "cleared the codes" of the ABS failure. Not only did all the lights go out on my dash and the ABS system started working again. It was easy to bleed the back brakes. Maybe I was just lucky and the "pump" of the ABS was in the right position. But again, no issue pumping the brakes and bleeding the back brakes old school style.
