My car is older than I am. It just recently started do this thing where she will drive for roughly thirty seconds immediately after start up. Soon after, whether I am in gear or not, she will only rev up. Example: I start her up, put her in drive, make it to end of driveway, then my speedometer drops to zero and my rpm's will increase when I step on the gas.
Theoretically, I could drive my car in thirty second intervals, and when she has her little "hiccup" turn her off, start her up, and drive for another thirty seconds, but I would much rather know what the actual problem is and know if it is something an up and coming mechanic with no actual ASE certification could accomplish.
Thank you for your time.

There is not a single light on, and fluid was not dark brown like oil, but it definitely was not red. I just changed the transmission fluid pan gasket because it was leaking.

If you replaced filter make sure that there is only one o-ring and it is installed correctly. Make sure fluid is full because a lot of times when you shift into gear it drops the level. Then if all that is okay have a transmission professional look at it.

Well, after putting alot of thought into it, and driving her one last time, I went ahead and dropped the transmission. (By my self) I was considering taking it somewhere for a rebuild, but after seeing the prices on used Trannys on ebay, I might just go tgat route. Any sudgestions? Which one would ultimately be cheaper? In your opinion.

Check local junkyards for a trans they usually warranty them, withone that old you can probably get a decent one for around $500 otherwise it's 1500 or more for a rebuild. Try www. Junkyardog. Com type in your info and you'll get prices as well as availability
