Hello everybody,

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I am not going to handle the tire situation on my vehicle, I looked at the inside of my door. It said p225/75R16, I don't remember seeing an XL. But I am going to double check on that.
I am researching various prices, to find the best deal. But what are the differences, if any? Does the P make a difference? In selecting tire sizes on Firestone, there is an option that says 225/75R16 and one that says P225/75R16 XL. I assume the XL means something different, but does the P? And if the XL means something different, what is it? Would both be compatible with my truck? XL just being a little more lifted?
Thank you in advance!

Hi, Cas.

The XL simply stands for extra load. The sidewall may be a bit heavier duty allowing the max weight the tire can hold to increase. You can use an XL tire but on your vehicle, it really isn't needed unless you carry a lot of weight or tow.

As far as the P, that stands for Passenger. A passenger tire is one that is designed for lighter duty needs. Most all cars, SUV's, and half ton trucks and vans come with them. Once you move into a 3/4 ton vehicle, LT replaces the P indicating it is a light truck tire.

In most cases, if no letter is indicated, it is a passenger tire which is what you need.

Listen, once you select the tire you want, send me the info and I'll let you know if meets your vehicle's needs and requirements. It's not a problem.

Take care and I'll watch for your reply.

Joe

Thank you so much Joe! I really appreciate your help
So, I am on a budget, and I want to get the best deal. I've narrowed it down to either Goodyear, or Walmart tires.
I can get Goodyear Wrangler ST P225/75R16 for 107 a pop. There's 100$ off instantly, but they make you install at their location. So that would be about 404$ subtotal.
Then I found some tires on Walmart, they're cheaper, but I don't want to get bad quality tires. So what do you think of these options?

https://www.walmart.com/search/?cat_id=91083_1077064&facet=tire_width%3A225&query=225%2F75r16&sort=price_low

There's a lot of them on that list
These are just four of the cheapest ones.

Lionhart Lionclaw HT 225/75R16 112 S Tire
Eldorado HTX Sport 225/75R16 104 T Tire
Leao Lion Sport 4X4 HP 225/75R16 104 H Tire
Westlake SL369 225/75R16 108 S Tire

I appreciate your input, thank you!

Hi,

Any of them will work. I will say that the list you provided, other than the Goodyear, are low end tires. I'm not saying they aren't good, they won't last as long.

I have to be honest, the size you need should not be expensive. I did a Google search and found several brand name tires for under $90.00. I can't say names, but if you ask me, I can answer. LOL

The Goodyear you found I believe were the original equipment tire that came on your vehicle.

Let me know.

I understand but keep in mind with installation it'll be close to half a grand regardless. Even with the cheaper tires it's between $400.00 and $500.00 with the installation and tax. I am 19, currently taking care of my grandmother. Wont be able to get back to work until early 2020, so just trying to make the best decision. Thanks for your help!

I've actually read a lot of reviews for the Goodyear tire that say they aren't good in snow. I live in the north majority of the year, we get some bad winters. Those reviews turned me off to those Goodyear tires

I'm not going to go with Walmart tires, after doing more research. They offer no tread warranty, and at first I thought I'd sell my truck soon but after deciding I'll try and get another year or more out of it, I'm going to go with a nicer tire.

With cyber Monday deals, it could be worse.
I'm trying to decide between these:

https://simpletire.com/eldorado-p225-75r16-etx75-tires

https://www.discounttiredirect.com/buy-tires/laufenn-x-fit-ht#

I also found those same tires on sears for cheaper, but I'm not sure if they offer the same warranty

https://www.sears.com/laufenn-x-fit-ht-225-75r16-104t-all-season/p-09536170000P?plpSellerId=Sears&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=T1

What do you think of those two? I need a tire that won't have me slipping and sliding in the snow and ice. Thank you! Enjoy your day.

Hi again:
Those tires are more of a highway tire, but they do have an all season rating. They are very similar to the Goodyear in design.

Here is a key element to look for when selecting. The tire's tread wear (UTQG) is a very good indicator of how many miles you can get from a tire. The tires you indicated above both are over 600 which is good. The lower the number, the less miles you will get. If they go under 400, don't waste your money.

I live in the north to some degree as well, PA. I understand your concern. If I had to chose from the two above you sent, I would most likely go with the first one you listed. Please keep in mind, it isn't an aggressive tire for snow.

I attached a pic. In the picture, I highlighted the tread wear (AKA) UTQG rating so you know what to look for. The tire listed has a 500 rating which isn't bad for as aggressive it is.

Let me know if I can help.

Take care,
Joe
