I purchased a used vehicle. Took it to a mechanic and found out that there was an accident on the vehicle from the front passenger side. When the vehicle was mounted, it was noted that the axle and other components surrounding the axle were from junk parts. It would cost me nearly 1K to fix it at a Toyota dealership. My question is what is the axle for and is there a permanent damage to this condition even after it is fixed. Perhaps, is there a chance that other components will be damaged too as a result of the damaged axle. I could see oil leaks and dripping from under the car. The mileage is 8000

The axle is what connects and transfers power from the transmission to your front wheels in order for your vehicle to move. Without axles, your vehicle would not move. If the dealership is saying it needs an axle, then most likely it needs an axle and unfortunately its not covered under warranty due to it being caused by an accident. I would also have them inspect the transmission axle seal to make sure its not damaged and causing a leak. This part may also be know as a transmission oil seal or transfer case seal.
