So I have had the car for about a month now and today it started shaking/shuddering once I came to a stop light, I was going about 60-ish mph. I noticed my “service engine soon” light came on as well, so I grabbed my scanner (at this time I was in a parking lot) and it read that there was a misfire in cylinder 5. This has happened before but lasting at maximum five minutes. This time it lasted at least 45 minutes to an hour. Also, part of my air intake duct has a hole, which I was thinking maybe that is part of the problem, not sure. I have not tried anything to fix it as I would like an opinion from someone else before do anything. Thanks, hopefully someone can help!

Welcome to 2CarPros.

The hole is before the mass air flow sensor, so it won't affect that, but it should be fixed. It is drawing in heated air from under the hood and not fresh air from the front of the vehicle.

As far as the misfire, it could be a few things. First, often times an engine vacuum leak can cause a rough idle and misfire, but since it went away, I doubt that is the issue. So, the next step is to remove the coil and plug on cylinder 4 and inspect. If everything looks okay, I want you to switch the coil pack from that cylinder with a different cylinder., If it happens again and the cylinder changes for the misfire, replace the coil pack.

I have no idea how many miles are on the plugs, so make sure if needed you replace them all as well as make sure simple things such as a partially plugged air filter isn't an issue.

Let me know what you find.

Awesome, I wasn't quite sure what that piece with a hole was for, but glad that is not related to this, lol. But cool, that is what a couple of my buddies at work were saying, it should be a relatively easy fix. I’ll let you know how what happens, as it always seems to get more complex as you go! Lol thanks!
