Oil light staying on engine making a bit of a noise, oil topped up no leaking. Would changing oil filter make a difference as dont know if it has ever had a service.

Changing oil and filter is a good start. Use an analog gage and double check oil pressure. The only spec I could find, engine at operating temp, minimum 15 psi @2000 rpms.

I looked at service bulletins for the oil issue, nothing caught my attention.

As far as mechanical ticking, I saw one about belt tensioner ticking or something.

Just to add, I can't rule out oil sending unit issue for the light. The oil light, I can't tell if that is service lamp, meaning, change oil and filter, or something else? Your owners manual should be able to tell you.

Change your oil and filter then double-check your oil pressure, go from there.
