My xterra service engine light is on. I changed my oil yesterday and did fill the tank. Could either be the cause?

Could be related, but the only way to find out is have the vehicle's computer scanned with a scan tool, Now your sure it is'nt a oil change light? Now that is something that can be reset and the details how should be in your owners manual.

Yes, get a scan done to retrieve the trouble codes and since vehicle is new, I would let the dealer sweat over it.
