Driving along and wipers were being used. For no reason they stopped in the middle of the windshield. I could hear the motor running but they were not moving. When I checked the bolt on the face of the motor was loose. I tightened the bolt and they work fine but every time I turn them off, they still stop in the middle of the windshield. I then removed the wipers and repositioned them in the down position. They stall stop in the middle when turned off. I am faced with moving them to the down position when not in use.

Remove the wiper arms, turn the wipes on and then off so they park. Then reinstall the arms. That should fix it.

Thank you, but I have already done what you suggested. The wipers still return to the center of the windshield the next time I use them. Took it to the dealer yesterday and within 15 minutes they said I needed a new motor and all new linkage for a total of 664.00. They did not possibly have time to diagnose the problem. Do you have any other things I can attempt.

Well, here is what I know. There is a park switch in the motor which can go bad and cause them to park in the wrong position. However, I don't think that is the problem. What I think has happened is the linkage has come loose or is damaged and the motor thinks it is in the park position when it isn't. Can you check the linkage to see if there is anything else loose or damaged?

Thanks. Could you give me an idea what to look for? The best view I have of the linkage, it seems to be fine. This is baffling. Everything works fine except the stopping in the middle. I have put the wipers in every position I can and they still come back to the middle. Does it tell you anything interesting that they move to the down position when I push them with my finger very easily.

Do you have any idea what would have caused them to just all of a sudden start this issue? I was going along using them while it was raining hard. They simply stopped working. That is when I opened up the area and felt that the bolt had loosened. I reached in with a wrench and tightened it back down and they started working but do stop in the middle where they did when it first started.

Does the computer have anything to do with the operation of the wipers? Anything you can come up with would really help. I found that I can purchase a brand new motor for $85.00 but hate to do so if the motor is not the problem

Thanks,

Lee

The only thing you can do is remove the wipers and cowl and inspect the linkage for anything being bent, disconnected, loose. I tried to find a good pic for you to look at, but nothing is available. Based on your description, it sounds like something is loose.
