Can an oil pressure sensor on the side of the engine block become defective and leak oil, if the oil level was low, A car dealer told me that because of low oil pressure the sensor became defective and leaked.

Highly doubtful, but the sensor can become defective and leak. I just doubt it was because of low oil pressure. Sounds like he's trying to fleece you for an oil pump change. Rent or borrow a gauge from a parts store and check your oil pressure.

Not likly no way you have a oil leak. They may have to put dye in and then they check it with a black light to find it.
