Just bought this SUV and I did not notice this noise because test drove on pavement. Well I live out of town up a tarred and chipped road and a gravel road. And this noise is loud on it. It sounds as if something is loose on left front side side! Can anyone help me figure this out? I am almost in tears, fearing I messed up by buying it.

Have a local mechanic check for loose suspension parts or an engine guard or liner hitting someplace. This would need to be physically looked at.

I always do fluid change outs and other stuff too, as I do not trust what may or may not have been done in the past by others whenever another vehicle joins our fleet or a friends.

Probably would not be a bad idea to get a front end alignment from some place that specializes in alignments (not mainly selling tires). I go to the place that keeps the same experienced employees, also does "Big Trucks", and make repairs. Aligning is "their thing"

Many times they can spot a problem before they begin work. This lets me decide if I can do the repair or if I want them to do it. The big thing is they see the little stuff or combinations of stuff that others may miss.

Even if it is not a suspension problem, surely they will see your racket, and at minimum you may feel some peace of mind from the 'check-up"

Let us know how you working it out.
