"Air Bag" light coming on

Our van has the "Air Bag" light coming on recently and I'm not sure why. I know the air bag is an important safety feature, so I'll probably have to bite the bullet and take in to get it looked at. I'm just wanting to get myself prepared for what this is going to cost. Best case scenario to worst. I'm hoping they will just hook it up and see that it needs reset at a very minimal cost. Or is there anything I can do myself?

No re set. it is on for a reason and you must find the reason, diag for failed part and repair. the light will go out by itself when repaired.

it could be a clock spring to the controller, any one of these items among others can be the failure. none of them are cheap

Any ideas on how to reset or repair an Air Bag Sensor Light (2006 KIA Sedona)? It is the red light on the drivers side instrument cluster. The vehicle has never been wrecked and all the fuses are working. One hundred miles out of warranty and the dealership will not fix. Trying to save money and do this myself. Thanks for the help.

The dealership agreed to pay for the fix. They are ordering the bottom half of the passenger seat. Thanks for the quick reply.

My friend's vehicle listed above is showing the airbag code B1324. In a blog it was mentioned that was a WCS or 'weight class system' code which I believe refers to the passenger weight sensor. Is this correct, and if so where might the sensor(s) be located in. I looked all around under all the seats and all the wires I can see are all connected. The Genisys picked up two codes that it erased that my Actron 9575 didn't find, they were C1513 Brake Switch and C1611 Controller Area Network Timeout EMS, these seem unrelated at best.
I downloaded a service manual showing four weight sensors for the passenger seat, if these are the only ones is there a way to test them. I haven't checked with the supply houses or the dealer yet on if there are individual replacements, if not, is there a work around that will get the Airbag system back on. Precautions can be taken that no passengers under the specified 80 lbs. Weight criteria use this seat if that be case.

According to my reference material, B1324 means a communication system error, which agrees wit the C1611 which is CAN Timeout-PCM/ECM. Double checks the wiring. Use a meter to verify continuity. Also check the connectors and connections.

You need to take this to the shop and get checked. The only way to reset the light is with a computer. Also, the bag may be defective which is why the light is on and it should have deployed but didn't. The problem here is it still could while you are driving. The safest thing is to get it checked and enusre the system is working correctly and the bag doesn't deploy on you

Airbag light has come on in my 2005 Sedona. Actually has been on for quite some time, anyway, that has prohibited it from passing safety inspection. Was told it could be a sensor needs to be replaced. Diagnosis would cost $95, and replacement of said sensor might be around $250 to $300 dollars. Car has 73xxxx miles. It had another sensor issue a while back, having to do with ignition. Had that replaced. How common is it for all these sensors to start going out at this point in the car's life? Could it be something less expensive than a sensor replacement?

Unless you have already had the stored codes read an analyzed, anything could be wrong with it. That's where you need to start with getting the codes read. That will require a professional scan tool, not just a generic code reader.

Well, if you consider they pay in excess of $10,000 for the equipment to do that and will have to spend time testing circuits to determine the cause. Yes it is common.

Do you mean why is it there or why did it light up? It's there to tell you the system has passed a bunch of self tests during the first seven seconds after turning on the ignition switch, then the light turns off. When it turns on at other times, the computer has detected a problem, set a diagnostic fault code in memory, and turned the system off. You need to have the code(s) read. That will indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis.
