WHY do the reverse sensors turn off when I put the truck into reverse?

After starting the truck the reverse sensor seems to be on because the off light is not glowing. With in a few seconds after I put the truck into reverse the "off" light comes on. There are no objects in the way and im not reversing too fast, just sitting with my foot on the brake.
