Check gearbox oil type used and condition, check clutch adjustment, when in 1st gear how high is the pedal befor drive is felt?

The oil has never been changed and I have not noticed any difference on take off. Sometimes it takes the gears well and all off sudden it becomes too hard to engage 1&2 gears.

Change the oil and get the shifter checked out, don't have any info on this car to hand but if cable shifter may be a cable problem or in the shifter quadrant.

I checked the shifter and oil it looks fine. This morning I could not engage all the gears on the idle. When I engage 1st gear and start the engine, it just drives away with clutch pedal down. It is currently jammed on the reverse gear.

Is this a hydraulic or cable clutch, sounding like a clutch operating problem.

I opened the gearbox and one of the pins in the pressure plate is broken. I am going to get myself a clutch kit and a new slave.
