Standard 5 speed transmission stuck in first.

Standard 5 speed transmission stuck in first gear, I thought it might be the shifter cable but upon inspection found the cable still connected to the transmission and moves freely, seems not to be connecting to anything and won't disengage the gear. Do I need a new transmission or can I repair this myself? Ie. Drop tranny and reconnect linkages on the inside?

Did you manually try to disengage from the lever?
It might not be as easy as reconnecting linkages. Something could be worn causing the hub to be stuck in 1st.
Without stripping the trans you would not know what could be wring.
