Warm up for about 5 min before it will shift gears

I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra and if it is cold out and it has been sitting for awhile I have to let it warm up for about 5 min before it will shift gears, over drive will go off, and the back defrost will turn on

Does it shift gear s manually instead of drive?

The button locks up so you can't pull the shifter to switch from park to drive or reverse

Those cars need to warm up before these items will work, they got away from that design in later years.
