I was told that I would not need to gap platinum plugs. I take the old plugs out put new ones in. New wires then I put the car back together. Try starting the car it turns over but won't start try it again nothing. 2 or 3 more times later I start to smell gasoline. I take a plug out and its dirty and smells like gas.

Check to make sure you are getting a good hot blue snapping spark to the plugs, and make sure the plugs are properly gaped.
