Car burning through gas

2005 Taurus newly fixed transmission and problem started after car repaired never had any issues before. Car has digital read out to watch mileage and gas usage.

I recently had transmission repaired and now car burning through gas about 1 mile worth of gas for every.2 miles driven what could be the cause for this?

I have seen were a transmission will try to go into two gears at once, causing the problem you are describing. The valve body needs to be replaced.
