I have a grand caravan 2005. When I put in drive it doesn't move. When I put my foot on the gas it makes a squeeking noise from the back wheels. I do not have the parking break light on and it is in the off position. I actually don't use it. I think was used when we had our tires changed at the mechanic last week but other then that I have never used it. I tried to take it off and on a few times but the car still will not move unless it is pushed with the gas and then it squeels from the back wheels. Is there something I am missing or could do to get the car to move?

Hi.
If your parking brake is never used, and was applied prior to the problem occurring, most likely what has happened is the cables under the vehicle that actuate the parking brake have corroded in the sheath and are holding the rear brakes in the applied position. The pedal inside will come back to the disengaged position and keep the light off, but the brakes are still applied. Have this checked asap, it will wear the brakes rapidly, overheat the drums/rotors and cause excessive heat in the transmission fluid, as well as a large drop in mileage. Hope this was helpful, Doc

Hi again,
You did not say whether it has disc or drum brakes in the rear. If they are disc, you can force release by prying the actuating arms on the calipers to the release position. If they are drum, this is much more difficult to remedy, as the drums have to be removed to access the actuator arm, and with the brakes on, the drums will be stuck very tightly. Agaib, hope this was helpful Doc
