I cannot get the back brake light off to get the bottom part of strut to replace. Please advise if there is a better way to replace the strongarm gas charged lift support

Are you trying to fix brake light or take strut off? Should be two screws in light assy to get to bulb? Or is there a short in system?

I screwed up sorry, the struts just pop off with a screwdriver.
Procedure
CAUTION: When a hood hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

NOTE: Apply pressure only at the end of the liftgate assist rod that you are removing or attaching. Do NOT apply pressure to the middle of the rod because damage or bending will result.

Open and support the liftgate.
Remove the tail lamp. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
Using a small flat-bladed tool, release the clip retaining the liftgate assist rod to the lower assist rod ball stud.
