car will make it down the street a short distance with limited power and check engine light comes on

Hi Peeps,

Started Corsa C 2004 (54) from cold this morning, drove 200 yards and the (car with a spanner through it) warning light came on, with a limited amount of power. Turned around and went home, sat on drive restarting a couple of times and the light goes off as usual until power is applied, then it comes back on. Any ideas?
