I have a 2004 saturn vue. We changed the timing chain and now it will not turn over. It sounds like starter is just spinning. No fire.

If it cranks but wont start how does that sound sound like a bad starter?Sounds like the starter is working?So why did you replace the timing chain?Did you replace the whole timing kit Sprockets chain tenisor guides cam bolts torque everything to spec etc?

Rotate the main crank clockwise a few more degrees. Most likely your flywheel moved so that you aren't quite lining up with the splines of the starter. Just move it a bit and she'll fire right up.

Hi,

If the starter is turning freely without making contact with the flywheel, first confirm it is fully installed and there is nothing from allowing it to sit flush. If it is, remove the start and check to see if the gear is moving outward when power is supplied. You can try this at home but be careful or have a parts store bench test it.

STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Turn the ignition OFF.

IMPORTANT: Record all pre-set radio stations.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Remove the B+ battery cable nut at starter.
4. Remove the S-terminal nut.
5. Remove the lower starter assembly to engine block bolt.
6. Remove the upper starter assembly to engine block bolt.
7. Move the starter right, clearing the engine block, then left and out of the engine block (flywheel housing).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Guide the starter into the engine block (flywheel housing).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the starter mounting bolts.

Tighten the starter-to-engine bolts to 40 N.M (30 lb ft).

3. Install the B+ cable and nut.

Tighten the B+ cable-to-starter nut to 10 N.M (89 lb in).

4. Install the S-terminal wire and nut.

Tighten the S-terminal nut to 5 N.M (4 lb ft).

5. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.

Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N.M (13 lb ft).

6. Reprogram the radio stations.
