Enter your question. My car started bumping around yesterday while idling-only occasionally. It felt like it was pulling to the left when it hiccups. Today it started to shake while driving and the "holy s*#t" light came on saying something is seriously wrong. I got home, but it felt like I just barely got home. Now I'm worried about if I can make it to a repair place or not, and what kind of problem am I probably looking at?
Oh, I've got a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 100,000 miles on her.
Suggestions? Ideas? Please tell me it's not going to cost a couple of limbs to repair!

I do not know your rig well

Imma CJ kinda guy.I answer the CJ5&7 forums a lot!

If your CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is on, Maybe you could make it down to ADVANCE AUTO or AUTOZONE. Others, They will "CODE" your rig for FREE!

Maybe they can show you whats going on, and sell you the FIX IT PART. They do around here!

The Auto stores are usually really helpful. Sorta a FREE DIAGNOSTIC MECHANIC, they see this stuff a lot!

This may not be as serious as you think! (Or it could be)

Never know, till you try!

It'll get coded somewhere, might as well attempt an EZ fix yourself, maybe your mechanical friends could assist you.

Please let me know how it goes!

Hello,

Ok, to reassure you, just because the engine light comes on while driving or whenever does not mean some serious is wrong. When the engine comes on it is telling you that you do need to have your engine checked. The computer in the vehicle has detected a problem in the engine which was relayed to the computer via a sensor. And having codes read will assist in finding the culprit.

And from what you describe with the vehicle shaking could be a couple of things. Which some people would describe as a bad miss.

So, my question to you - when was last tune up, Spark Plugs and possibly wires?
