Can you help with my vu ss Ute?

My vu ss ute when it starts up in the morning the engine light comes on and stays on untill the temperature gets to normal temp. Then the engine light goes off after 5 min then temperature drops back down to bellow cool. Then revs to 1400 rpm then drops to nearly 500 rpm. Then jumps back up and down 5 times then temperature goes back to normal? Then runs fine once it's warmed right up. And some times coughs and splatters and didn't want to start and has stalled its self, wich then has caused the battery light to appear. Also abs light is appearing on and off when I drive the ute. Any ideas?
