Hey ya'll I recently took my truck in for a check engine light. The repair was quick and relatively inexpensive. However, the mechanic brought to my attention two items they advised me to take care of:

1. Replace Spark Plugs at $200.00.
2. Replace front axle seals (due to leakage) $542.00.

These are the prices given after I checked with the dealer to compare (the dealer was cheaper). My question is, are these fair prices in your opinion? I'm considering doing the plugs by myself, but I'd have to purchase a few tools. I don't feel like I could handle the axle seals, however. Thanks for any advice.

Hello,

The spark plug replacement can be done using basic hand tools. You will need a spark plug socket to get the plugs out.

Here is a helpful guide:

For the front seal, I am assuming they are talking about the CV boots leaking. If the only issue is leaking boots they can be changed. There are quick boots available that can be installed without removing the axle. This can save time and money.

I have attached diagrams showing the replacement procedure below for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
