Difficulty in engaging and disengaging gear

Please my Toyota has difficulty in engaging and disengaging gear someone said it's the release bearing. Please is that true?Please how do I know when the release bearing is bad

Check that the hydraulic system does not have a leak, is the fluid level low? Peel the rubber boot back off the slave cylinder and check for fluid, it should be dry, start here, as the bearing will normally not affect this part of the clutch operation, is the clutch noisy when you press the pedal? Can you feel and vibration in the pedal? How far up is the pedal when drive takes up?
