You need to scan the computer for codes, there's a problem within the Engine Management System. This is your starting point on identifying the problem.

You can go to one of those local auto parts that does OBD check. Mostlikely code would be p0031 or poo51. Oxygen sensor. If you know a mechanic, can be replaced with reasonable price.

i also have xl7 suzuki 2003 and been happy with it. I maintain my own car from oil change to something minor replacements.
