I have noticed two days ago that my transmission light has come on and when i restart the car it doesn't come on at all. I was wondering if the transmission can be affected by large amount of rainfall. If this is the case what should I do otherwise am I able to check the engine myself to fix the problem?

The first step is to give a good visual inspection,if it's been in deep water check the fluid level and condition then check connectors for water intrusion and blow them out and add dielectric grease, check fuses and grounds. Andmost importantly retrieve codes with a scan tool,a code will be set even though the light is off.good luck and let us know what progress you've made.
