Brake light and battery light are showing on the dash

I have a 03 galant. The battery light and break light go on in the dash. I checked terminals and battery post. Cleaned them and lights in dash still go on. Dose it on park and idle go down also. Like it wants to cut off. What could be the problem? Want to know if I would have to buy a new battery or just charge it or also can it be the alternator? Help please

Clean and tighten battery terminals, get the alternator out put checked you can do this with a multi meter by having it on a setting to read 12V or higher, test at the main alternator terminal with engine running, you will want 13.5 -14.5 volts you will want this at the battery as well with the engine running.
