My check engine light is on after I fill up

2002 Honda Civic 1.7 VTECH Automatic. The engine malfuntion light has come on and my generic scanner says there are no DTC'S registered. When starting the car it goes out and comes right back on. The little oil light comes on and goes out as it should.
The engine mal light has come on after a fill up and I checked that the cap is tight and the gasket seems fine. My generic scanner says there are no DTC'S and I cant get the scanner to turn the light off. If it is the cap, how do I turn the light off? The little oil can light goes off as it should when started. The mal light goes off and comes right back on when starting the car.

Your scanner may not read the codes. Go to autozone or pepboys and have them pull the code and get back to us with that code number.

The light went out on it's on. Guess it was the gas cap after all. Live and learn. Thanks anyway ASAMaster6317
