Hi, my cousin has a 2003 expedition Eddie Bauer edition, she is having a few problems. The problems are that both side mirrors, the driver power seat do not work at all, and on the instrument panel the message center does not work. Is went out completely. You can not see the miles, or any other information. Also the dimmer switch is not working properly, as an when you turn the dimmer switch up to get the dashboard brighter all of the interior lights come on, which is possible after u turn the dimmer switch up and u hear a pop, but I do not turn it all the way up, just enough to have the instrument panel light up, and went turn the dimmer switch all the way down the interior lights do go off, as well as the instrument panel brightness. Since all of this problems kind of happen all at once, could this be a BCM issue? Or what could the problems? Any help would really be appreciate it. Thanks.

The dash may be bad for the problem there. And check all fuses in central junction box. All the fuses for power seat and mirrors are in central junction box so check all of those if yo have a test light that is best. It cold also be switches or motors but you need to check whether they get power or not first.

Hi, I will be checking the fuses and will be checking the switches and motors to see if they are getting power. And since instrument cluster is bad, will be getting either a new one or used, will it have to be programmed to the vehicle or is it just simple as taking out the bad one and putting in the good one.

Thanks, just found a place where they will rebuild the instrument cluster.
Also I checked all the fuses and I found that the fuse for the power mirrors, power seat and the memory seat is blown, replaced it but the power mirrors and power seat are not working, what I did notice is that the fuse is a 7.5a fuse but it had 10a blown fuse with a jumper between the terminal, so could that have cause a short somewhere? Thanks for all the help

Fuse 108 and 109 in central junction box are for power seats and they should be 30 amp. Fus3 should be 7.5amp and if a 10 in there and jumped then there is probably a bad motor in one f the mirrors and you'll be lucky if the switch isn't burnt up so check that. Fuse 3 also controls the memory seat which is a module so have it scanned to see if the module isn't fried as well. It will have to be programmed to your vehicle if it's bad. I'd bet the module is shot hardtelling what the cost would be to fix but i'd bet atleast $300 probably more but check locally.

Just checked fuses 108 and 109 and they both are 30a and are good. Since fuses are ok, do you think it could be the power seat motor? For the power mirrors how would I check the mirror motors and the power mirror switch? Is the memory seat module required for the power seat to work?

Ya the seat module would be required for it to work a pro will have to scan it as autozone can't. Check to see if the switch gets power then it goes through then ifmotor gets power then the motor is bad probably from whoever did the jumping burnt it up.

I had not gotten a chance to test the power mirror switches and the power seat switches until tomorrow, so I just have a question, I have sent the instrument cluster to get rebuild, and after removing the instrument cluster, I notices that the radio, power windows, and interior lights do not work at all. Is this normal? Secondly can the power mirror and power seat switches be tested? As I don't know if these switches are affected by the removal of the instrument cluster as the power windows, interior lights and radio were.?

The switches can be tested either with a volt meter or test light with key on. But make sure to see if relays are good as wel a fuses first you can switch relays with a known good one for the windows with the cluster out it may effect the woindows but check your accessory delay relay in central junction box that may be bad.

I just got the cluster back from being rebuild, they tested and the message center works, but when I installed it back in the expedition, the message center did not work at all. What could be the problem?

It may have to be programmed to your vehicle. A pro mechanic with a scanner will need to do that.

Ok so after many testing and not finding the issues, the expedition ended up being take to the dealership, at the dealership we were told that the expedition had a bad smart junction box, when tested is show that voltage was going in but not going out to the sources that are not functioning. Just want to know if that's possible or the dealership are trying to run my bill. And can somebody explain what is the main function of the smart junction box.
Thanks.

Yes that can happen with todays boxes the smart junction box transfers power throught eh fuses to other areas of the vehicle like from inside the truck to dash etc. Or from underhood to chassis and inside vehicle.
