I figured the gears out after 15 miles and the engine light was still on. I just bought the car a day ago and this was what happened after I left the dealer

Do you
have the same problem?

Stick or automatic?
Did you return to the dealer for a check up? Do you have a 30 day warranty?

We need the code from the check engine light to further help

Parts store will pull it for free. Dont let them sell you anything as they are salesman, not techs.

Use your warranty and have the dealer fix it.

Normal driving would be in D5 and the transmission would do the work for you.

Unless there is a problem, otherwise there is no such thing as in the wrong gear for this transmission.

In this position, it would not upshift but when you stop, it would downshift to 1st so I don't see any problem with that.

Anyway since the MIL came on, get a scan to retrieve the trouble codes and let us know what it is.
