Can an exhaust manifold be repaired or does it need to be replaced

Car failed safety inspection due to leak in exhaust. Mechanic says crack is at the top but whole piece needs to be replaced. Cost $500 seems high. No lights indicating problem, car does rattle and slight gas smell.

Is there no way to patch or replace a single part? Is the price reasonable if not?

Not sure he showed me the piece its at the very top way above the catalytic converter. Below some sort of ring or clamp

They are saying I have to order a whole new exhaust including catalytic converter etc.

Take to exhaust repair shop maybe can be welded
