I am having trouble with my 02 firebird. It cranks but will not start. I though at first it was a bad fuel pump but after futher troubleshooting "i.E. Waiting a day it started right up. Than I tried to to start it about 10 minutes later and would not start again and couldnt hear the fuel pump kicking on. It died on me going down the road the other day and the oil press gauge bottomed. I know the oil press has a shut off switch on it and that my oil press is fine because it has a new engine in it. Could it be a faulty oil press switch shuting the fuel pump off. Need to know before I go through the pain of changing the fuel pump.

The o/p switch doesn't have any control on your fuel pump circuit, not this vehicle. Check for voltage and ground at the fuel pump motor, engine cranking, at the pump connector, gray wire is voltage, black is ground. If you have good voltage and ground with no pump action, suspect the fuel pump. Use a fuel pressure gage to double check, my hearing is no good, can't hear pump with engine cranking.
