The transmission was working fine and with no warning it lost every gear no check engine light on just the anti-lock light there is no loss of fluid could the problem be a sensor ?

The best way is to have it checked for trouble codes.
Unplug the solenoid pack wires at transmission side and retest. If you are able to get the transmission to work in limp mode, it most probably is a fault with the valve body/sensors. If unplugging the solenoid pack do not work, you might have a failed torque converter.
