Car heats up fairly quickly when its turned on. The temperature gauge will run up three quarters of the way too hot then cool cool down to the middle and it goes up again and then down again and it just keeps repeating this any ideas?

Check the coolant level in radiator. Remove radiator cap when engine is cold and top up if the level is low, which means there could be a leak somewhere.

Do not close radiator cap after topping up if the amuont of coolant for topping up is more than 1 liter. You need to run the engine with radiator cap off for a minute or two and top up coolant as necessary to bkleed the aitr from system.
