I have the car listed above SE (bought it used about 1 month ago) with about 145, 00 miles on it. The other day it started misfiring really bad. There was no check engine light, but I scanned for DTC’s anyways and came back with P0300 (Multiple Random Misfire), P1456 (EVAP system very small leak) and P1800 (Variable Induction Air System open circuit). The VIAS solenoid doesn’t seem to be functioning (doesn’t push the actuator or click when hooked to battery) but I doubt that’s causing this bad misfire. I haven’t found any bad or disconnected vacuum hoses either. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi,

If that solenoid isn't responding when tested, that is the likely cause. When the solenoid is off, the vacuum signal from the intake manifold is cut. When the ECM sends an ON signal the coil pulls the plunger downward and feeds the vacuum signal to the power valve actuator.

The P0300 is a result of the condition, and the P1456 would not cause what you described.

So, if you already confirmed it isn't responding, I would suggest replacing it. If you would rather confirm it through the diagnostics, I attached them below for you.

Let me know what you find and if a new solenoid takes care of the issue.

Take care,

Joe
