My car has a transfer case leak, what is that? What are the problems associated with that? How bad is that?

The leak itself does not cause for concern but it can contaminate wirings, sensors etc. The thing of most concern is that when left unattended for extended periods, the leak would increase and fluids would be depeleted which can cause the transfer case to be damaged.
