P1502 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Intermittent

The speedometer and odometer will stop working. If the Check Engine light is on, if another code sets for an engine running problem, you'll never know it because the light is already on and you're ignoring it. A lot of relatively minor problems can turn into really expensive ones if they're ignored.

The light may not be on for code 1502. The Check Engine light must turn on when the detected problem relates to something that could adversely affect emissions. Fuel metering and emission control aren't affected by vehicle speed, so the light wouldn't have to turn on. On the other hand, some self-tests are programmed to run only under certain conditions, and some of those could be that a specific speed must be reached and maintained. If the Engine Computer doesn't know road speed it can't run some tests, and that COULD turn the Check Engine light on.
