I have a 2002 HYUNDAI ACCENT that has about 65k miles on it. It suddenlly squealed and quit while driving today. I restarted it, then I heard a belt squeal and then it stopped again, and I noticed a little smoke coming up out of the edge of the hood. Further inspection showed that what appears to be happening is that when the heater/AC fan is turned on, the AC compressor seizes up or slows enough to stop the engine. The engine tries to keep going, drives the belt around the compressor as it slows or stops, thus causing the smoke. Is this unusual? Should I just have the compressor replaced?

Also, I forgot to add - when I turn the fan off, the problem stops and I can drive it around fine.
